
Halifax have finally announced the signings of Sam Smeaton and Gavin Bennion.
Both players have been strongly linked with moves to Fax, with League Express revealing both as targets of Halifax for a number of months.
Centre Smeaton joins Richard Marshall’s side after a successful spell at Sheffield.
Smeaton said on his move to West Yorkshire: “I’m really happy to have signed for the club and I can’t wait to get stuck in to pre-season.”
As for Bennion, he joins Fax after a short spell playing Australian grade Rugby League, a move that came after his release from Warrington, where he worked under Marshall. In his time down under, Bennion originally played for Sarina, however his performances earned him a call-up to the Mackay Cutters. The 21 year-old can operate anywhere in the pack but has played most of his career at prop and in the second row.
“I’m really happy to join,” said Bennion
“After playing in Australia and now coming back over to England, I’m hoping it’s going to be a big year for us.”
