Fans take to Twitter after Burgess ditches union

Sam Burgess finally quit rugby union to make his return to the 13-man code, and Twitter was quick to react to the news.

After intense speculation surrounding his future, it was announced on Thursday that Burgess had in fact decided to leave Bath, a year after departing from NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs.

It resulted in thousands taking to the social media site to express their feelings, with most Rugby League lovers delighted.

The rugby union community also shared their thoughts on the news, with Harlequins player Matthew Hooper tweeting “Do what makes you happy”.

Meanwhile, others reacted to the news with anger.

Wakefield Chairman Michael Carter couldn’t resist making a very cheeky offer to the former Bradford Bulls star.

Whilst a Leeds Rhinos fan with exceptional photo editing skills posted this.

Unfortunately for Carter and the Leeds Rhinos, it is understood that Burgess has agreed to re-sign with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
