The future of long-standing Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah remains shrouded in mystery as talks between the NSW captain and the Tigers continue.
Farah asked for his release from Wests and held talks with the club’s CEO Justin Pascoe this weekend.
His future has been under scrutiny for sometime after falling out with head coach Jason Taylor, who earlier in the year had told the hooker he was free to look for other clubs as they looked to make space in the salary cap.
Originally, it was believed Farah was willing to see out his contract, but the latest twist has put a number of Super League clubs on high alert. However, the Sydney Roosters are thought to be in prime position to seal his services, despite already having hooker Jake Friend in their ranks.
Any move depends on the size of the payout agreed between the two parties. Farah still has two years remaining on his deal valued at $1.9 million, however Wests are likely to be reluctant to pay that sum.
If a settlement can be agreed, Farah could well join the Roosters or any other NRL club on a contract worth just $80,000, the competition’s minimum wage.
Any move to Super League would likely come at a heavier financial cost to the club, although the use of the marquee player rule could make the move viable for certain clubs.
