Bradford Bulls coach and England assistant James Lowes admits he believes it’s a fairly straightforward choice when it comes to whether to offer Steve McNamara a new deal – why change it?
McNamara led England to series victory against New Zealand last month, but his future is still up in the air after no news emerging yet over his future.
And Lowes, who worked with McNamara throughout the England camp this autumn, believes that McNamara should get the go-ahead to carry on as England coach, even admitting he’d love to be involved himself again.
“Why would you chose to get rid of someone who has just been successful and achieved a series win,” Lowes told the Telegraph and Argus.
“Why change that? Hopefully Steve will get the nod to continue and if that opportunity arises to work with him next year, of course I would love to be involved again.
“I was chuffed to pieces for Steve because he worked extremely hard to get the team to a point where they can win a series against a side like New Zealand.”
Lowes added that he believes McNamara cops criticism which is “unfounded”, and praised the England coach’s work ethic.
“I was really pleased for him because he’s worked hard since the day he took the job and it was just reward for all that hard work.”
