Eagles swoop for winger Blackmore

Sheffield Eagles have secured the services of winger Ben Blackmore from Featherstone on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Eagles ahead of 2016 and is their latest recruit ahead of their first season as a full-time team.

Blackmore scored 15 tries in 23 appearances for Rovers last year following his switch to Fev from Huddersfield. At the Giants he scored four tries in three games, but spent the majority of his time away on loan. He went on loan to Batley at the start of 2014 before eventually moving to Fev in June.

He will now join up with the Eagles for 2016, and Sheffield chief Mark Aston is confident he will have a big impact on the team.

“He scores tries,” said Aston.

“We’ve been looking at him for quite a while. He’s quick, a good lad and has a proven track record of scoring tries everywhere he has been.

“Ben’s scored tries in both Super League and the Championship. He’s big and explosive.

“I think he’d lost his way with the game a little bit, but we’ve dusted him down and I expect him to bounce back and reach the standards that he set himself.

“He’s another great signing and adds to our already strong backline that includes Garry Lo and Rob Worrincy. When you add the likes of Menzie Yere and QLT to that backline too it bodes well for us. We’ve certainly got some strike power.”
