England footballer praises Sinfield ahead of SPOTY

With the 2015 Sports Personality of the Year awards just around the corner, the tributes for former Leeds captain Kevin Sinfield continue to come in from all corners of the sporting world.

As well as universal praise within the sport for the iconic legend of the Rhinos, England and Liverpool footballer is the latest to come forward with a tribute.

Milner, a native of Leeds and former Leeds United player, told the BBC that Sinfield is an “amazing player” in a tribute on video to Sinfield.

“(He’s) an amazing player who’d do everything for the team,” he said.

“(He’s) a game-changer; he’s won games, won titles and he’s just a normal guy who can’t do enough to help you.

“He’s a leader who’s led the team to some amazing victories – it’s certainly not a bad way to finish your Leeds Rhinos career (referencing the club’s treble in 2015).”

Rhinos coach Brian McDermott also afforded another tribute to Sinfield.

“I’ve never known a bloke who deflects praise and adulation as much as Kev and I’m sure when people are talking about him, he’ll go blush red and say ‘Oh it’s not about me’,” he said.

“It’s bizarre he’s nominated as one of the sports personalities of the year, as its specifically about him; he can’t deflect this one. He’ll have to talk about himself, so good luck with that.”
