On the back of Misi Taulapapa’s signing with Featherstone Rovers, we took a look at the top five wingers in the Kingstone Press Championship.
1. Liam Kay (Leigh Centurions)
With 27 tries in 28 games at Leigh Centurions last season, former Wakefield winger Kay seems to have found his level in the Championship. Despite finish bottom of the Qualifiers last season, Kay will be looking to add to his impressive try-scoring tally in 2016.
2. Will Sharp (Halifax)
Sharp has been one of the most prolific wingers in the competition with three seasons at Featherstone after spells in Super League with Hull FC and Harlequins. The 29 year-old has joined Halifax and will be keen to continue his form as the push for the top four begins.
3. Ben Blackmore (Sheffield Eagles)
After things didn’t work out at Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants, Blackmore has found himself in his element in the Championship. He initially came to the division on dual-registration terms with Batley Bulldogs before two seasons with Featherstone and will join promotion chasers Sheffield Eagles ahead of the new season.
4. Omari Caro (Bradford Bulls)
Bradford winger Caro has a big season to establish himself as one of the competition’s best outside-backs. His try-scoring tally with Hull KR suggest there could be more to come from the Jamaican international and the signing of Kris Welham could give him the chance to prove his ability.
5. Rob Worrincy (Sheffield Eagles)
The list just wouldn’t be complete without Worrincy, who has found himself around the top of the try-scoring charts in the Championship for the last nine seasons. Back with Sheffield Eagles last season, he showed why he is one of the most feared outside-backs in the competition after continuing his form from a spell with divisional rivals Halifax.
