Smith praises impact of Johns during Tenerife camp

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has waxed lyrical about the impact former scrum-half and Rugby League legend Andrew Johns is having on the club’s younger half-backs.

Johns is currently working with the Wolves in Tenerife during their warm-weather training camp, as they prepare for the upcoming 2016 season.

And Smith says that whilst he’s given everyone a real boost, it is the likes of Declan Patton who could be set to benefit most from the influence and impact of Johns during the week away.

“Joey has been brilliant with all the boys,” he told the club’s official website.

“They all get a bit out of him particularly our young half-backs. We have some talented ones coming through and learning their trade but he’s also got some great tips for older guys too.

“He’s been terrific; just to have a legend like him in the midst of their training camp and spend time with them – he’s been very, very good. We’ve had him before but it can’t be understated what he gets through.”
