St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has insisted that there’s no timeframe on the return of full-back Jonny Lomax from a serious knee injury.
Lomax has suffered serious knee problems for the past two seasons, and played only five games in 2015 as his season was once again cut short by injury.
But Cunningham, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, said that Lomax will be heading across the Irish Sea for a scan, and admitted he’s thankful the club landed full-back Jack Owens from Widnes.
“I’ve not given Jonny a timeframe. Obviously he’s coming off a recurrence of that injury, when Jonny’s ready he’ll be ready,” he said.
“He’s going to go over to Ireland where they’ve got some 3D technology to have a look at him and he’ll probably get re-checked in six weeks. Luckily we signed Jack Owens.”
On Owens, Cunningham admits he’s still amazed the Saints landed the former Widnes flier.
“I’m still shocked that Widnes let him go, I honestly am. It’s definitely our gain. We’ve put lots of education into and he’s loving being around, it’s a different environment and everybody’s challenging him. He just loves it,” he said.
