ROUND-UP: Sunday’s pre-season action reviewed

The snow put paid to a handful of pre-season games on Sunday, but most survived the chill and provided plenty of entertainment.

It was a contrasting afternoon for both Hull clubs; the Black and Whites ran out comprehensive 46-12 winners against Doncaster, with Callum Lancaster bagging himself a hat-trick for good measure.

Hull KR, however, suffered a nightmare start to pre-season, going down 38-6 at home to Huddersfield. Matty Marsh scored KR’s only try of the afternoon, with England international Jermaine McGillvary marking his first appearance of the season with a try, suggesting he’s ready to continue his form from last year.

Wigan and Leigh played out a thriller at the Leigh Sports Village, with the Centurions winning the ‘Battle of the Borough’ and emerging 26-20 victors – with Jamie Acton grabbing the winning try for the Centurions.

Halifax grabbed an impressive 18-18 draw against Widnes, after being behind 14-0 midway through the second half. Richard Marshall’s men fought back well and provided optimism that 2016 can be another good year for the men from The Shay.

The other friendly was an all-Cumbrian affair, as Barrow and Workington played out a 10-10 draw.

There’ll be full reports, reaction and photos from all today’s friendlies – including the late game between St Helens and Dewsbury AND Leeds’ clash against the USA national side in Monday’s League Express – so don’t miss it!
