Hull FC coach Lee Radford has insisted his side are still not the finished article, despite them roaring to the top of Super League with victory against Salford on Friday night.
The Black and Whites won 42-20, with two late scores from Salford acting as mere consolation as the hosts wrapped up victory with ease on the opening weekend.
But Radford, who admitted he was aware of improving the club’s home form from last year, says there’s still more to come from his team.
“I think it was five wins in 15 games (in 2015) which is obviously not a track record you want,” he added.
“I thought the pre-game build-up was great and the players started fantastically.
“We’re by no stretch the finished article but I’m pleased with the start and looking forward to next week.”
Radford refused to let Salford’s late rally bother him too much, with his attention already switching to a trip to Perpignan next weekend.
“It was a little bit scrappy in the second half – it wasn’t the prettiest – but to score the points we did I’m over the moon,” said Radford.
“We let some sloppy tries in. Our boys have played together once and I thought that showed. But in the main, I can’t complain.
“I’m really pleased with the start but it’s a massive challenge next week – I think we’ve won one game in nine years (away to) Catalans (Dragons) in the Super League so we know what’s in front of us.”
