Betts thrilled with Rhinos thrashing

Denis Betts was inevitably thrilled after his side destroyed Leeds Rhinos.

The Vikings stunned Super League with a 56-12 hammering of the Rhinos, which sent Widnes to the top of Super League.

As the scoreline suggests, Widnes put in a sensational display against the treble winners, who are amazingly bottom of the league after two rounds.

And Betts couldn’t contain his delight after the match.

“It’s hard not to be so pleased and happy with the performance,” he said.

“We’re two games in, so we don’t want to get carried away, but we came into the game with real confidence of winning and to restrict Leeds to twelve points is a real bonus.

“We know we can score tries, but we defended with great resilience. We were so composed.

“I thought Lloyd White was the best player on the field by a long way. He was absolutely fantastic and there were lots of performances to support him.

“In the last few years we’ve lacked consistency and that’s one of the things we’re trying to drive.

“It’s a tough time for Leeds at the start of the year with their internationals coming back and the World Club Challenge next week
“We’ve got to enjoy these moments and the recognition of being a good side.”
