Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell issued a stark warning to the rest of Super League following their 31-24 win at Hull – saying that there’s “shedloads” of improvement left in his team.
The Tigers made it five points from a possible six – they were zero from six this time 12 months ago – following the opening three rounds of the season after a Denny Solomona hat-trick and a brace for Jy Hitchcox on debut secured Cas’ first win at Hull since 2011.
And Powell insisted afterwards that whilst the win lays down a good marker – his side are way off their best form yet.
“It makes us potentially a very good side,” Powell said of the win. “We can improve in all sorts of ways, but in terms of confidence, to come and do this after a scratchy first couple of weeks is great.
“We still feel like we’ve got work to do to find our best form, but if we can improve it’ll make us a good side – I think there’s shedloads of improvement in this group.”
Powell also raved about Solomona following his hat-trick.
“He’s a finisher, simple,” he said. “He looks at seeing how many ways he can score a try I think – and he doesn’t practice it!”
