Dodds could play again this year

Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has revealed that Mitchell Dodds is due to fly home from Perpignan today (Wednesday) after the broken leg suffered in Saturday’s victory against Catalans Dragons – and says he could yet still play a part in their 2016 campaign.

Dodds suffered the injury during the first half of Warrington’s win against the Dragons, but is only travelling home today after treatment in France.

Smith confirmed he faces a “five or six-month” recovery, but says that if the Wolves play well enough to keep their season going, Dodds could still play a role on his return from the injury.

“He’s flying today (Wednesday) and Ben Sterling, our head of conditioning, has been there with him throughout,” he told TotalRL.

“He’s taken care of him and made sure he’s had the right sort of medical advice and they’re on their way back.

“We’re gutted for him but Mitch is OK, and he’s in really good spirits. He knows that he’s got a five or six-month recovery ahead of him and if the team does well and plays well it gives him a crack for the end of the season. That’s something for him to aim for.”

The Wolves have made only one change to their 19-man squad for this weekend, as hooker Daryl Clark returns from injury to take Dodds’ place in the squad. Aside from that, there are no fresh injury concerns for the Wolves from the Catalans game.
