Harrison highlights Challenge Cup importance for Batley

Batley Bulldogs chief executive Paul Harrison has paid testament to the Challenge Cup ahead of the club’s clash with Whitehaven.

The two Championship teams face off for a spot in the fifth round and a potential match against Super League opposition.

In what will be John Kear’s first game in charge since it was announced he will leave for Wakefield, Harrison insists he would love to see the Bulldogs go on a cup run.

“The Challenge Cup is special. We’re not getting carried away, we know we’re not going to go to Wembley, but it is the major cup in Rugby League.

“Hopefully we can beat Whitehaven, which won’t be easy as they beat Sheffield the other week. The players certainly won’t be taking it for granted. Our players have to turn up every week and the minute they don’t do that they will get beat.”

A feature interview with Paul Harrison discussing the upcoming departure of John Kear will be in Monday’s League Express.
