Evans wants his Lineham pairing to go down in history

Warrington Wolves centre Rhys Evans says that he’s so impressed with his wing-centre pairing with Tom Lineham that he has ambitions for it to be regarded as one of the greatest in the club’s history.

The Wolves are riding high at the top of Super League following the opening few months of the new season, with Evans’ partnership with Lineham a big reason for Warrington’s success.

The club have had some legendary wing-centre pairings down the years, and Evans told the Warrington Guardian that they want to follow in the footsteps of players like Gleeson, Bridge and Monaghan as a strike pairing to be feared.

“We always want to aspire to be mentioned in the same breath as players like them, they did the Warrington shirt a lot of justice over the years,” he said.

“Hopefully when our careers are done we can be looked upon in the same light.

“Tommy’s been playing well and he’s been scoring a lot of tries recently and we’ve been getting a lot of joy down both edges.

“He’s got so much physicality, he’s a big lad, very strong and an excellent finisher. I feel I’ve been playing well but there’s always things you can improve on, both individually and as a team.”
