With the fifth round of the Challenge Cup set to get underway on Friday night, fans will be looking at all eight ties and wondering where the best chance of an upset is.
The competition has had two real fairytale stories in recent years with Castleford and Hull KR making it to the final – and even last year, Leigh Centurions stunned everyone by getting to the quarter-finals.
So where are the three most likely chances of a cup upset this weekend? Let’s take a look.
Oldham at Hull Kingston Rovers (Saturday)
This is one of several Championship v Super League ties this weekend – and you feel that Oldham’s upturn in form of late gives them a fighting chance against last year’s finalists. They have beaten Batley and Sheffield in successive weeks to really get their Championship campaign up and running – and Scott Naylor’s side will fancy a scalp against a Hull KR side who most recently lost 40-0 at home to Catalans Dragons, and are beginning to be cut adrift from the top eight.
Toulouse at home to Leigh (Saturday)
With the success of Catalans Dragons in Super League, will there be more French cheer this weekend in the Challenge Cup? Toulouse host Leigh Centurions in a battle of arguably the Championship’s best and League 1’s best in France on Saturday afternoon. Could Olympique spring a remarkable upset and dump Leigh out across the Channel? It’s a possibility.
Rochdale at home to Widnes (Sunday)
Rochdale are flying high at the top of League 1, and they welcome a Widnes side to Spotland on Sunday who are certainly wobbling in terms of form. The Vikings have lost their last four following that blistering start to the season, and look vulnerable against a Rochdale side well-marshalled by Alan Kilshaw.
