Leeds Rhinos’ faltering season hit a new low as their defence of the Challenge Cup ended early following defeat to Huddersfield.
A 36-22 reverse was an eighth consecutive loss on the road this year, with this defeat effectively ending any hopes of securing silverware this year.
An early Jimmy Keinhorst try gave Leeds a deserved lead, but Huddersfield went in 19-6 ahead at half-time following tries through Ukuma Ta’ai, Jermaine McGillvary and Ryan Brierley, plus a Jake Connor drop goal.
Leeds threatened a fightback on several occasions, but Huddersfield were always in control thanks to tries through Kyle Wood and Danny Brough along with penalties and drop goals courtesy of Brough’s boot.
