Wakefield chairman Michael Carter has confirmed the club are in the early stages of securing an overseas signing for the rest of the 2016 season.
Head coach Chris Chester told League Express this week that the club was hopeful of adding to their squad for the rest of the year while also confirming they were in negotiations with players from Super League and NRL about joining the Wildcats.
And now Carter has gone one step further by confirming the club has put the feelers out as they attempt to sign an overseas player.
“We’ve got an enquiry out at the moment,” Carter told TotalRL. “But it is very, very early days. First of all, we don’t know what sort of package he’s looking for and that might completely blow us out of the water, and also it’s an overseas player we’re looking at, so there are some issues around visas.
“The request for the visa information went in on Friday and we’re yet to hear back from the RFL, so we’re waiting on that before we make any progress on it because if that gets knocked back we can’t go forward anyway. That’s where we are at.”
Speculation will undoubtedly pick up following Carter’s revelation, however TotalRL understands that Konrad Hurrell won’t be the man making the move to the Wildcats. Reports in recent weeks have suggested the New Zealand Warriors star could be on his way to Super League, but Wakefield isn’t a likely destination.
