Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed another new contract for a key member of their squad – with forward Matty Ashurst signing a new two-year deal with the club.
The 26-year-old joined the Wildcats from Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2015 season, and has signed a new two-year deal which will keep him at Belle Vue until the end of the 2018 season.
Having made over 100 career appearances during spells with St Helens and Salford prior to joining Trinity, the Wigan-born forward has played a crucial role in the side’s impressive turnaround this season, having been ever-present in the team since Chris Chester’s arrival.
“I am really happy to get the deal done and have my future sorted at the club,” he said.
“I have been enjoying my rugby recently playing under Chezzy and with the great group of lads that we have here. The togetherness of the boys is a big factor and makes you want to be around the place. Hopefully we can continue our recent form into the rest of the season and further beyond that.”
Chester added: “I am pleased that Matty has signed another two years on his contract, he has been fantastic for us this season and I am looking forward to see him progress and continue to play a vital role in our squad.”
