Gareth O’Brien insists the club’s ongoing appeal against their six-point deduction isn’t the squad’s focus, however they are determined to recapture the points they lost.
Following victory over Widnes at Magic Weekend, the Red Devils have regained four of the six points they were deducted a month ago, having secured two wins in three matches.
Ahead of their game with Wakefield on Friday, the Red Devils remain four points behind eighth-placed Widnes with eight rounds of action remaining.
Should Salford’s appeal be successful they would move back into the top eight, however, O’Brien is adamant that the players are focused on picking up enough points themselves, rather than leaving it to chance.
“When it happened the boys all got together and we said we can’t control what is going on off the field, but we can control what is happening on it,” O’Brien told TotalRL.
“It’s out of our control and it’s up to Marwan and the board to sort that stuff out, all we’ve got to do is play rugby, that is what we’re paid to do. Since it happened we’ve been gutsy and I’m proud of the boys.
Despite the ongoing drama surrounding the club, as Marwan Koukash’s war with the RFL rumbles on, O’Brien insists that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Salford.
“It’s a nice place to be. The boys are really tight, we’re all best mates and we work hard for each other. We’re sticking together, we’re going to have ups and downs, and all we have to do is believe in ourselves. We’re a talented bunch and we can beat anyone on our day.”
