Rugby League gets behind Ronan Costello as young Huddersfield player remains in critical condition

Some of Rugby League’s biggest stars have sent messages of support to Ronan Costello as he continues to fight for his life following an incident in a match.

The 17-year-old was critically injured during Huddersfield Under 19’s game with Salford on Saturday, which was abandoned following the injury. It is understood that he has suffered a serious head injury following a routine tackle.

Huddersfield confirmed on Sunday that Costello remains in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary, while Paul Anderson said: “We have to put all our prayers and hopes into him getting well,” following the club’s defeat to Wakefield on Sunday.

Former Giants star Brett Ferres was one of the first to send the youngster a message of support, tweeting: “Keep fighting Ronan Costello, just shows the dangers of our great sport, RL family will b right behind you.”

The England international was correct, as countless well-wishers took to social media to give their support. George Burgess was one of many who tweeted.
