Four candidates for the Huddersfield Giants job

Steve McNamara
There’s all sorts of speculation linking McNamara with the job at Hull KR next season – but until that role is confirmed, it’s easy to speculate about where the former England coach could be next year. Should the Giants find a short-term replacement for Anderson for the rest of the year, could they look to former player McNamara as an ideal replacement for their now former coach for 2017?

Geoff Toovey
If the Giants look down the high-profile route for their next head coach, then former Manly coach Geoff Toovey may not be a bad appointment at all. He is out of work after leaving the NRL side last season, but comes with a fine CV and a reputation that would be fitting for a club with high aspirations like the Giants. With former Manly forward Tom Symonds only just in at the Giants too, could he be set for a reunion with Toovey?

Andy Kelly
The former Wakefield coach has already been put in charge of first-team affairs at the Giants as the club look to secure Anderson’s replacement, but may they decide to recruit from within and promote Kelly to head coach? There’s no indication either way about Kelly’s preference in that regard but he has the experience and he’s got a great CV to boot.

Paul Rowley
The former Leigh coach may well be lined up to take charge of Toronto next season – but might he fancy warming up for that job by taking up the reins at his former club for the rest of the season? It would be a fine way to get him ready for his return to coaching, and given his history with Huddersfield, it may not be as far-fetched an appointment as it sounds. Rowley against former side Leigh in the Super 8s may make for interesting viewing, too!
