Castleford Tigers winger Denny Solomona has poured cold water on recent reports linking him with a move away from the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
The flying winger, who is Super League’s top try-scorer in 2016, has been linked with a number of clubs for 2017, despite remaining under contract at the Tigers until the end of 2018.
Wigan were one of those said to have an interest in a move for the 22-year-old, with some suggestions that Solomona had actually signed a contract with them before they announced the signing of Joe Burgess last week.
But Solomona laughed off any speculation about a move to Wigan, who he will face in the Challenge Cup on Saturday.
“There’s been a lot of talk about clubs coming after me, but it’s pretty simple,” he said.
“I’m here for another two or three years with my current deal. I’m happy here and I’m only focusing on Castleford.”
That a number of the club’s other major stars are signed up for long-term deals like himself confirms Solomona’s belief that Castleford is the only place to be for his development.
“It’s all rumours as far as I’m concerned,” he reiterated.
“Nothing has been said to me and I’m just trying to concentrate on the day-by-day nature of things at Castleford.
“I’m happy here, so why would I want to change that? Michael Shenton is on a long-term deal, Luke Gale has just signed up again for a good few more years and I see no reason why we’d want to change things.”
Solomona had to stand in at fullback during the Tigers’ defeat to Widnes earlier this month – a position he has played in several times before.
And although the Tigers have the services of Greg Eden secured for next year, Solomona insists he’ll have to be better in future at the back if he is called on by Daryl Powell.
“Everyone sometimes gets put in a position they don’t usually play, but I played there at Melbourne a bit, although I wasn’t quite up to standard there.
“To have (Luke) Dorny back is a big boost for us; nobody can do what he does out the back of the door.
“I started out at fullback at Melbourne but I ended up gaining weight, so they shunted me out onto the wing. If I get put back there I’ve got a lot to work on, but at the moment I’m having a good season on the wing and I’m happy there.”
