Castleford Tigers assistant coach Danny Orr believes a run of form like the one Hull FC put together to surge to the top of Super League may be what is required to reach the top four this season.
The Tigers have suffered with both injuries and inconsistency aplenty this season, and know that tonight’s game at Salford is huge as they bid to claw their way up the Super League table.
They are nine points adrift of the top four heading into the weekend’s games, and Orr says that whilst this is undoubtedly a huge game, longer term the Tigers may have to look to putting a serious run of form together.
“It’s huge. We’ve got four games left, four big games for us, starting against Salford,” he said.
“We want to get back on winning ways. It’s going to be tough for teams to climb up into that top four, there’s been a bit of a breakaway, but you’ve got to do something like Hull have done. They’ve gone a great run, I think they have won 10
straight.
“We’ve got 11 games left and I still believe that on our day and if we are consistent we can beat anybody.
“We’ve just got to nail a couple of performances, get on some kind of winning run and if we do that who knows where it can take you.”
Orr also insisted that there is still a long way to go this year, with 11 games remaining before the play-off semi-finals.
“You look at where someone might drop points here and we might gain there, but it’s the old saying, we can’t rely on anybody.
“Teams above us will drop points, but we’ve got to be good, be really tidy with our game, play the way we know we can, defend a lot better than we have been doing and try and get some wins together. Hopefully that will be enough come the end of the Super 8s and we can make that top four.
“But even if you don’t you still want to win games. You can’t say you’re not bothered, you don’t want to win any more, that’s not us. We want to win games and play well.”
