Hull KR coach James Webster has insisted he believes the club will stave off the threat of relegation in the Qualifiers after their spot in the middle eight was confirmed on Thursday night.
Rovers lost 36-12 at cross-city rivals Hull FC to ensure a bottom-four finish in 2016 after another season of disappointment for the Robins. But Webster was in defiant mood after the game, saying they will be determined to avoid the potential of relegation to the Championship.
“I am really confident we will get the job done,” he said.
“We will go into the last eight weeks of the season hell bent on winning every game. Instead of being the hunted, you want to be the one doing the hunted.
“We will go out with the mentality we will go after these games. It is the only way to do it.
“You need to stop thinking about what bad things could happen and think about some good things.”
Webster was also quick to pay Thursday’s opponents Hull credit – but was left to lament a start in which the Robins began brightly but failed to score any points.
“I have got to give Hull credit, they were really good and completed at over 80 per cent in the first half. In doing so it took a lot of energy out of us,” he said.
“But we had two good chances in the first half and didn’t come up with anything.
“After one of them they had eight sets in a row on the back of some very interesting decisions.
“They scored two kick tries and while I wouldn’t say they were lucky, take them away and with the couple of chances we had it could have been a lot closer of a game.
“Overall, we could have scored 24 to 30 points without ever having a foothold in the game. That gives me some encouragement.”
