VIDEO: Moore questions Super 8s concept

Wakefield’s Scott Moore believes the Super 8s structure needs to be assessed in order to keep the season exciting for all clubs.

Following their Challenge Cup final defeat, the Wildcats are now eight points adrift of the top four with seven games to play, making it almost impossible for them to achieve anything significant in the remaining weeks of the season.

Speaking to TotalRL, Moore was asked what Wakefield’s goal is for the rest of the season.

“I don’t know, that’s the question,” he said.

“I think maybe the concept needs looking it. Maybe after the regular rounds they should reset the points. Maybe the top four should be tapered down four, three, two and one point wise, and then the rest of them start on zero, so you’ve got a chance of playing for someone essentially. What other teams could do is play their academy sides for the rest of the year and save their top-line squad fresh. Players can get ops when they wouldn’t necessarily get them unless it was the end of the season.

“Essentially there’s nothing to play for. Obviously, we want to win because we’re sportsmen, but realistically there’s nothing to play for reward wise.”
