Gale closing in on second Albert Goldthorpe Medal

Luke Gale took a huge step towards retaining the Albert Goldthorpe Medal this week following a dazzling display against Hull FC.

The Castleford halfback put in a stunning display as the Tigers stunned league leaders and Challenge Cup finalists Hull FC on Friday with a 30-16 victory.

And Gale was suitably awarded in the Albert Goldthorpe Medal race, as he was given the maximum three points by the reporter covering the game for League Express.

The Albert Goldthorpe Medal is a prestigious award given to the best player in the eyes of League Express reporters. The reporter assigned to each Super League game is tasked with giving points to the top three players, with the individual that earns the most points over the course of the season being awarded the medal.

Gale now leads the table by SIX points, with none of the other players at the top of the table picking up points this week.

Todd Carney is in second place with 19 points, with Chris Sandow, Marc Sneyd and Robert Lui all seven points adrift of Gale’s 25 point haul.

If Gale goes on to defend the award, he will become just the second player to do so, following in the footsteps of Danny Brough.
