Assistant coach Simon Finnigan commented: “We are delighted Andrew has come on board. When we heard he was available we jumped on the chance to bring him in.

“His experience at the highest levels means he will be an extremely important tool in our arsenal. He fits into our club culture and system, he will challenge and develop his team mates and the coaching staff. We couldn’t be more pleased with this signing.”

Pownall joins the Wolfpack after spending his entire professional career with Leigh Centurions.

“In Jonny we have a very exciting prospect on the field,” Finnigan said.

“He knows how we play inside and out, and he has the skill set and the desire to make things happen for us on the field.”

“When this opportunity arose it was a matter of when, not if, I could get started,” Pownall said. “I felt like I personally needed a new challenge and what better way than to start off with a new exciting venture in Toronto. I can’t wait to meet my new team mates and strive towards what is the goal for us all: Super League.”
