England will gain another assistant coach under the stewardship of Wayne Bennett, with the Rugby Football League confirming it will be a full-time appointment.
Bennett already has Denis Betts as a part-time assistant, with Paul Wellens remaining in the England setup following Steve McNamara’s tenure in charge, but there will be another new man joining the fray.
Adverts were released this week, with the deadline next Friday, and it has now emerged that the appointment will be full-time, and will last until the end of the 2017 World Cup.
“We have no-one specifically in mind,” an RFL spokesman said. “It will be an all-year-round appointment.”
The new assistant, who will be based full-time at the RFL’s Red Hall headquarters, will be joined by two members of Bennett’s Brisbane Broncos backroom staff, Jeremy Hickmans and Scott Barker, to add to his growing England team.
Bennett has opted to ditch St George’s Park as the squad’s training base and instead will use a selection of venues near to where the matches are being played in advance of this year’s Four Nations.
