Championship Player of the Year Micky Higham has insisted that Leigh Centurions are not resting up following securing promotion last weekend: and says they want to end the Qualifiers in style.
Already assured of a top-three finish following five wins from five in the middle eight thus far, Leigh finish their campaign with games against Batley and Leeds knowing they have avoided the drama of the Million Pound Game.
And Higham, speaking immediately after being crowned the Championship’s best player at the award ceremony in Leeds last night, dedicated his victory to the entire squad.
He said: “It caps off a perfect few days, it’s a good end to a long and enjoyable weekend.
“What a weekend and what a way to finish things off, promotion and now this. This is on behalf of the squad for me, it’s a special time for this club and we’re not getting carried away yet. We want a clean sweep, we want to aim high and get over the line in some style.”
He added: “That’s really humbling that the coaches pick it. I must be doing a decent job still at my age! There’s probably a handful who could have got this award, I’m just very grateful I got the nod.
“The celebrations have stopped – I’m designated driver tonight, I can’t do it anymore!
“I need to keep fit as long as I can! It’s been a long weekend but it’s been worth it. We’re back in work to build up to a massive game against Batley, it’s still a big game for us.”
