Chester aggrieved with disallowed try

Chris Chester bemoaned the decision to rule out Bill Tupou’s late try in Wakefield’s 18-12 defeat to Hull FC.

With his side trailing 12-8, the centre had a try disallowed by video referee Phil Bentham, and Chester claimed it was the wrong decision.

“We had the game taken away from us, not through any lack of effort but through a poor decision from the officials. The touch judge said Bill Tupou was offside but you could clearly see he was onside.

“It was clearly a try, so we feel a bit aggrieved by it, and their last try came off a forward pass, that’s just our luck.”

Despite that, Chester spoke of his delight after seeing his side push the Challenge Cup winners all the way.

“I’m very proud,” Chester said. “I thought for long parts of that game we were the better team. It was a massive step up from where we’ve been in the last few weeks.”
