Melbourne Storm have confirmed that they will discuss whether they take part in the 2017 World Club Series later this week – after admitting they have concerns about a two-week trip to the UK for a “trial match”.
The Storm look set to be invited to next year’s three-match series to play the runners-up from Saturday’s Grand Final between Wigan and Warrington.
However, Storm senior officials have told the Herald Sun in Australia that they have not yet decided what to do in terms of their planning for 2017 – saying they instead may opt to take part in two friendlies in Down Under.
“There is a group of us internally that’ll meet later this week to talk about our preparation for the 2017 NRL season,” Storm chief executive Dave Donaghy said.
“However, we do have some serious concerns about travelling across to the other side of the world two weeks out from our season starting for what is effectively a trial match.
“We’ve had two trials matches locked in (in Australia) for a long time and that may be a better option for us as we look to build into the season for next year.”
