Wigan Warriors boss Shaun Wane has all-but given up on his hopes of coaching England.
The 52-year-old Warriors head coach, who took over the DW Stadium reins in 2011, has revealed how he has been snubbed for the role in years gone by.
Wane admits he has a desire to one day lead the national team. But the former Great Britain international feels his hopes may never become reality.
“I would like to (coach England), it would be a big honour,” Wane told League Express.
“But after applying in the past and not being considered, I am resigned to the fact it will probably never happen.”
Meanwhile, Wane is pleased to see the Rugby League World Cup heading for England in 2021.
Last week, the Rugby Football League confirmed the news and the governing body plan to stage 80 percent of games in Yorkshire and Lancashire, with “showpiece fixtures” being staged elsewhere.
Wane said: “It is great for the English game to have the World Cup coming here. I just want to see everyone get behind it and the support the teams involved.
“London is still an area of the country we desperately need to crack, so I am not sure having most of the games in Lancashire and Yorkshire is hugely positive.
“But there are some good people in those counties, who have supported the game for a number of years, and deserve something like this in return.”
