England coach Wayne Bennett has admitted he doesn’t know if his side possess the self-belief to beat Australia this Sunday and potentially secure a place in the Four Nations final.
England have not beaten the Kangaroos and reigning world champions for over 20 years: since the opening game of the 1995 World Cup.
But only victory is good enough this weekend for England to stand any chance of making the final of the tournament at Anfield next week – and Bennett says he’s unsure if his boys have the belief to beat the Aussies.
When asked, he said: “That’s a good question. I don’t know, but we’re going to find out.
“There’s lots of fallacies in what we do and that’s a fallacy – how do you tell if someone has self-belief? They could talk tough and look tough but not play tough. It’s like losing – how do you tell if someone’s a good loser or a bad loser?”
