Wigan head coach Shaun Wane has admitted he is not exactly sure when Sam Tomkins will return to action.
The England international is back in training after foot surgery but is unlikely to be fit for the start of the season.
That prompted Wigan to sign French fullback Morgan Escare, who will battle for a place in the team with Tomkins.
Wane is hopeful that Tomkins will be fit to play in the early stages of the season but admits there are no guarantees.
“March-April… but it’s still not a definite time-frame,” he told Wigan Today.
“We’ll see how he is when he starts running, we’ll know more then.
“He’s had a plate in there and that has to come out, and so there are some things that could dictate when he’s back. But he’s training really well and he’ll be back as soon as possible.”
