Huddersfield reveal Ronan Costello memorial

Huddersfield Giants Academy have confirmed plans to retire the number 13 shirt in memory of Ronan Costello.

The club revealed their intentions after they officially unveiled a memorial to the tragic teenager at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Costello passed away in June after an incident involving Huddersfield’s Academy team and Salford.

The memorial stone is located in the Memorial Garden opposite the main entrance to the John Smith’s Stadium and was unveiled by Ronan’s grandparents and the club at the weekend.

The memorial stone is placed next to a memorial for the late Huddersfield Rugby League legend Dave Valentine.

All team shirts bearing the hashtag #RC13 and a plaque will be installed at the Giants Training Centre.

Giants Player Welfare Manager, Andy Jordan said: “It gives us the opportunity to have an everlasting memory of the life of Ronan Costello and what he meant to us here at Huddersfield Giants.

“He was a fantastic young man, who is sadly missed and we’re just glad that as a club we can respect his memory and celebrate the life Ronan had.”
