Hull Kingston Rovers goal-kicker Ryan Shaw believes they must get up to speed soon as they continue to adapt to life in Super League.
Shaw was speaking after their comfortable defeat to Salford, a third loss in their first four games back in the top flight.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Robins as they prepare to take on Castleford this week, and Shaw believes they need to learn lessons fast.
When asked for his assessment of their first four games he said: “Well we’ve only won one game so we’re not really happy.
“We know we can do better. At the end of last year we had games of a good standard that stood us in good stead for this season, but we’ve just not played well for the 80 minutes or defended well enough.
“We can get a lot better, if we can put 80 minutes together we will win a lot of the games. There’s a lot more to come from us. It’s just doing the basics right, tackling and completing sets. If we start doing that, it will improve us a lot.”
Shaw believes the differences between Super League and Championship are becoming quickly apparent for the Robins.
“Last year there were teams that made it the biggest game of the season. It was very physical but skill wise it wasn’t as good. You’re getting a lot more attacking plays thrown at you which makes it harder.
“You can’t afford to give the ball away because you get punished, in Championship you can a little bit. That’s probably the biggest difference.”
