Castleford assistant coach Danny Orr admits he expects a barnstorming response to last week’s defeat at Wigan on Friday night.
The Tigers have traditionally responded well from disappointing setbacks during Daryl Powell’s time in charge; a trend they will be hoping to continue on Friday when they host local rivals Wakefield Trinity.
And having slumped to only their third defeat of 2018 last week at the DW Stadium, Orr is keen for an instant response.
He told TotalRL: “We spoke about bouncing back during the week. We let ourselves down against Wigan; don’t get me wrong, a great Wigan team who deserved the win, but nonetheless, we didn’t do ourselves justice.
“We’ll be looking to put in a strong performance – and it’s going to take a strong performance, because Wakefield are a good side.
“They’ve been on a bad run but they could have easily won three or four of those games. The conditions when we played them a few weeks ago were terrible, and they like to throw the ball around and play, and the conditions just didn’t suit it. We know what they’re capable of.”
Despite the Tigers sitting fifth with games in hand on the sides above them, Orr also insists there is much more to come from Castleford in 2018, too.
“We’re doing alright, we’re okay,” he said when asked for an assessment of the Tigers’ season so far.
“We’re not exactly where we want to be and we know there’s a lot of improvement in us, but that stands us in good stead at the halfway period. We’re in a decent position, especially with a game or two in hand – and if we win those, we should be in and around the top two or three at the halfway mark which is certainly handy.”
Popular forward Jesse Sene-Lefao is back in the mix and in Castleford’s 19-man squad: and Orr is confident he should return.
Orr said: “He’s trained with the boys in and out for about a week, so I don’t see any problem if he was picked to play.”
