A supporter who fell ill before Sunday’s Test match between England and New Zealand is recovering in hospital.
The incident took place shortly before kick-off at Elland Road, with numerous spectators seen waving for paramedics and calling for someone to ring the emergency services.
There was understandable concern following the event, however, the individual was breathing and conscious when he left the stadium and is now recovering at Leeds General Infirmary.
In a statement, the RFL said: “The RFL have been in close contact with Leeds United, and at this stage the signs are positive. There is a limit to what we can say because of data protection restrictions, but we can confirm that the patient had regained consciousness by the time he left the ground in an ambulance, and is recovering at Leeds General Infirmary. We hope to be able to provide more details later this week.”
England doctor Chris Brooks was one of the first people to offer assistance after he was alerted to the situation by several England players. However, Leeds United stewards and medical staff then took over and with the help of their defibrillation equipment were able to ensure the individual was breathing and recovering by the time he left the ground in an ambulance.
Halifax halfback Scott Murrell was among the spectators close to the incident, and he praised those who helped throughout the incident.
