McGuire backs young Robins forward for massive future

Danny McGuire has tipped young Hull KR forward George Lawler for big things after his impressive start to the season.

Lawler was one of the Robins’ star performers in their recent win over Leeds and has been an ever-present for the club this season.

Still only 23 and with over 50 senior appearances to his name, the youngster’s career is on the up.

McGuire has played with some of the game’s finest forwards, and he believes his current team-mate can reach similar heights.

“George Lawler is unreal,” he said.

“He can’t be far off an England Knights place in my opinion. He’s one of the best young forwards I’ve come across, even from my time at Leeds. He’s definitely going places.”

While Lawler’s career is just starting, McGuire’s is coming to an end as he prepares to hang up the boots at the end of the season.

He insists he has not considered changing his mind, despite providing high-level performances on a regular basis.

“No, I’m done.

“I’m really enjoying this year, I’ve said a few times it was the best decision I’ve made to come and play here for a few years and do something different. But I’ve no plans to carry on, the body is telling me it is time to down tools a little bit, but I’ll still be giving everything to represent the Rovers shirt and do it justice.”
