Toulouse hold off spirited York challenge

Toulouse Olympique won a thrilling Championship game 30-26 when they defeated York City Knights 30-26 today at the Stade Ernest Angéles.

In a game that saw the lead changing hands constantly, Toulouse finally prevailed with a 72nd minute try to hooker Anthony Marion, which he converted himself, to take the lead for the last time and complete the scoring.

The spirited Knights, who were cheered on by around 200 travelling supporters, led 12-16 at half time, and they fought back from 24-16 down to take the lead again with tries from Perry Whiteley and Sam Scott, the latter converted by Connor Robinson, to lead 24-26 and, although they couldn’t hold on for victory, the Knights, who were promoted from League 1 last season, were certainly not disgraced.

Earlier in the game Toulouse scored tries through Bastien Ader, Rhys Curran, Mark Kheirallah and Stan Robin, with Marion converting the first two and Tony Maurel the second two.

York’s earlier tries had come from Judah Mazive, Marcus Stock and Kriss Brining, with Robinson having added two goals.
