Featherstone Rovers coach James Webster had no issue with Toronto recalling centre Greg Worthington (pictured) last week ahead of his return to the Championship club this week.
The former Leigh centre went back to his injury-hit parent club on Thursday and was immediately named in the Wolfpack’s squad to face Warrington the following day.
But he would not have featured for Rovers in their weekend’s Coral Challenge Cup clash with Barrow Raiders anyway, and is now set to resume his loan at Featherstone that will have to be for a minimum of 28 days again.
Webster said: “Greg wanted to play, and he’s been waiting ten years to play a game in Super League.
“It was only fair that he was allowed to do that and it didn’t have any impact on us at all.”
Featherstone football manager Steve Gill further explained: “We were asked the question on Thursday regarding Greg returning to Toronto for the Warrington fixture, as he is cup-tied for us at Featherstone.
“Greg really wanted to play in the fixture and we felt after speaking to him that it was the right thing to do for him.
“Both clubs have agreed that Greg will return to Featherstone on loan on Monday.”
Worthington made his long-awaited Super League debut in the closing stages of the Wolfpack’s 32-22 defeat at Warrington.
His absence and that of any Leeds Rhinos dual-registration players for Featherstone’s Barrow clash meant that Webster was down to his last 20 players.
He added: “That was every single person we had available – some guys that haven’t played all year got a chance and that’s fantastic for them.”
Webster confirmed that the club remains on the lookout for permanent signings to boost numbers at the club.
