Wolfpack hold talks with NRL chief about Australia clash

Toronto Wolfpack officials met with NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg at Saturday’s World Club Challenge to hold preliminary talks about the Wolfpack’s proposed game against Australia.

David Argyle and his Head of Operations in England, Martin Vickers, were at The Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday and met up with Greenberg to discuss the details of their proposals.

The Wolfpack hope to host the game on October 24th/25th, with the game set to be played at a venue in the city that wouldn’t necessarily be Lamport Stadium.

League Express understands that Wigan and St Helens are also keen to host the Aussies, but the Wolfpack appear the frontrunners to get the warm-up game with the Kangaroos.

Further conversations are set to take place this week.

Meanwhile, Chase Stanley is likely to arrive in the country this week after finally receiving his visa.

Stanley has been unable to feature in the club’s opening four games but has finally received documentation.

They are now in the final formalities of getting an updated passport, which the club expect to arrive in the next 48 hours. At that point, the 30-year-old will be flown to the UK to meet up with the team.

Meanwhile, the club could make further moves in the recruitment market following the arrival of Tony Gigot, and the departure last week of their Director of Rugby Brian Noble.

Despite the Wolfpack being open about their salary cap problems, they were able to get Gigot on their cap after signing him as a triallist.

Even though he is not being paid to play, he has a value of £15,000 on their salary cap, as per RFL regulations.

Toronto were able to put that on their salary cap, however, they will almost certainly have to make adjustments to their squad should they go ahead with signing Gigot permanently, given that his value will likely increase.

But with that issue still several weeks away, Toronto plan to use that time to find a solution.
