Workington Town boss calls for drastic improvement

JONTY GORLEY insists that his Workington Town side needs to improve drastically following their 18-12 loss to Whitehaven in the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game last week.

Speaking before Town’s trip to Portsmouth to face the Royal Navy on Sunday in the second round of the Challenge Cup, Gorley admitted he was “gutted” about how Haven out-enthused his side in their pre-season game.

“Whitehaven were good for the win and wanted it more than us,” said Gorley.

“In this league, you can’t just rock up and think you will win. You have to be smart and we weren’t very good at all, in the first half especially.

“We gave them far too much field position and possession.

“They’ve had a lot of changes in personnel. They’re a new team and they hyped themselves up.”
