Bradford Bulls see big future for teen forward Alfie Leake

BRADFORD BULLS coach Brian Noble sees a big future for Academy product Alfie Leake.

The teenage forward has signed a contract to 2028, and having featured in a pre-season clash with Keighley, is keen for involvement in a competitive match.

Noble has urged the pack prospect, who has a family link to Bradford’s 1949 Challenge Cup winner Billy Leake, to listen to and learn from captain Michael Lawrence.

“Coaches can give direction, but there are people in the changing rooms who do it week in, week out, and Michael Lawrence is the first I would go to in Alfie’s position,” said Noble.

“We see something in him and training with the squad will be beneficial. I am hoping to see some huge improvements across the season.

“Alfie is clearly enjoying what we are doing. He got into the mix at the start of the year and he has really impressed with what he dishes up, with his attitude and his approach to being a Rugby League player.

“He goes about his business quietly and efficiently both when he plays and when he’s in practice.”

Billy Leake played fullback when Bradford beat Halifax 12-0 in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley 76 years ago.

“He was my grandad’s great uncle, and becoming another Leake to play for Bradford is a goal of mine,” added the 18-year-old, who scored a try in the 26-0 home win over Keighley in December.

“I have been a Bulls fan since I was a kid going to games with my dad, so to sign a first-team contract is unbelievable.

“For someone of Brian Noble’s calibre and experience to see something in me is great, and I want to work hard so he keeps that opinion.

“I try to soak up as much information as possible, and working so closely with Michael Lawrence and James Donaldson is great. They give me tips and help me out.”
