DARYL POWELL has tipped Max Jowitt to be pushing for England contention after Wakefield agreed a new contract with the fullback.
Jowitt enjoyed a record-breaking 2024 as Trinity won the Championship, scoring 26 tries and 198 goals to become the first player to ever hit 500 points in a season.
And he scored two tries on his Super League return as Wakefield enjoyed an opening-round win at Leeds.
The 27-year-old, who has extended for another two years with an option for 2028, has never received an international call-up but coach Powell believes that should be his next target.
“He has grown into a high-quality fullback in all areas of the game,” said Powell.
“His best years are ahead of him and I believe he will grow further and challenge as an international fullback in the future.”
Jowitt has spent his entire career with the club, with this his twelfth season after debuting in 2014, while his father Ian also played for Trinity.
“I’m a Wakefield lad so being able to secure the next couple years of my future at my hometown club is pretty special,” said Jowitt.
“Even before I sat down with Powelly and Millsy (recruitment manager Ste Mills), I was hoping that I’d have the opportunity to stay with the club and once they did let me know that they wanted me to be their fullback it was an easy decision.
“I absolutely love coming into training every day and wearing the Trinity shirt every week.
“I’ve been at the club a long time and seen a lot but it was an easy decision to stay with the club and I’m excited to be a part of the journey that the club is on.”
Meanwhile, Wakefield have signed forward Noah High from Warrington on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for 2027.
The 20-year-old didn’t make a first-team Wolves appearance but has played on loan in his native Cumbria for both Whitehaven and Workington.
“It’s always been the goal to be a part of a full-time squad,” said High.
“I’m hoping to get the most out of it and learn as much as I can from the coaches and players around me to hopefully push on to play first-team rugby during my time here.”
