NEWCASTLE THUNDER coach Chris Thorman says there is one major goal in his mind as the new League One season comes into view.
The north-east club have experienced a turbulent time following the departure of former owner Semore Kurdi – a move which subsequently constrained them financially.
With limited resources, Newcastle lost every game last season, scoring just 190 points throughout the course of the league campaign.
“The good thing about the start of last year is that we made it. You get to put your stamp on things and to do it your way,” said Thorman.
“We have a bunch of people at the club who understand what’s needed to be done over a period of time to be successful. It’s been challenging, it’s been interesting and it’s certainly going to be worthwhile, I know that.
“This year the aim is simply to be better than we were last year. We won’t make any predictions, we’ll just make sure that we win a couple of games. We’ve identified some of those.”
Newcastle will start their league season at home to Swinton on Sunday.
It will be their third game of the campaign at their new home at Blaydon Rugby Union Club. They bowed out of the Challenge Cup and 1895 Cup following defeats to Batley and North Wales Crusaders respectively.
