York Knights expect ‘big lift’ from Mitch Clark

YORK KNIGHTS coach Mark Applegarth says adding experienced prop Mitch Clark to his injury-hit squad ahead of schedule is a bonus.

The 31-year-old of New Zealand heritage, who was a York target for next season, has left Sheffield and joined the Knights on a deal to the end of 2027.

Clark has an impressive CV, having played for the Junior Kiwis and New Zealand Maori representative team as well as Doncaster, Bradford, Hull KR (from where he made a dual-registration appearance for York in 2017), Castleford, Leigh, Wigan and Newcastle Thunder.

His father Trevor Clark played for York as well as Leeds, Featherstone and Bradford.

Applegarth, currently without front rowers Bailey Antrobus and Kieran Hudson. said: “It came around really quickly.

“We were looking at him for next year but when the opportunity came to sign him for the rest of this year, we jumped at it.

“Mitch will add a different dimension to us. He’s got some punch in his attack and a great offload game and he’s got a great presence. I think culturally he’ll be a big lift for the lads as well.”

Clark was released from a Sheffield contract that ran to the end of this season.
