LONDON BRONCOS coach Mike Eccles hailed the help of Wigan after the capital club claimed an eye-catching first win of the campaign at the third attempt.
Three young Warriors featured as Featherstone were beaten 14-12 in Championship round two at the Cherry Red Records Stadium at Wimbledon.
Kian McDermott, 18, started at prop while fellow forward Lukas Mason, 19, and hooker Taylor Kerr, 18, came off the bench.
McDermott and Mason, the son of former St Helens and Huddersfield prop Keith Mason, also featured in the previous game at Bradford, who won 20-6.
Eccles, whose hastily-assembled side were beaten 17-10 by Goole in round two of the Challenge Cup, also fielded Warrington winger Jake Thewlis in both the league matches.
And as he continues to build a squad following the tricky transition to life without long-time backer David Hughes – newly-signed former Super League winger Liam Tindall made his debut against Featherstone – Eccles says loan players are important.
“They are not the answer in the long term, but at this stage, we have to do what we have to do,” he explained.
“We are actively looking for additions, and scouring the New South Wales and Queensland Cup in particular.
“But we won’t panic. We have to be sure they are the right people for this club, otherwise we won’t build anything.
“That’s where loans can be crucial, and the players we have signed have fitted in well and really contributed.
“Kian has been very solid and is benefitting from playing Championship rugby, and Lukas is a talented backrower who has played as a middle, and we should keep that adaptability in mind.
“Taylor is some player as well, and he has provided vital support for Curtis Davies (signed from Dewsbury).”
The Broncos have surprised some with their competitive displays, but Eccles said: “I always knew we would be.
“The win over Featherstone was the epitome of a team effort, and it was so important we nudged our way over the line.”
